My name is Rob Thomas and I have been designing and building great basements in the GTA and across North America since 1990.  I have designed 4,000 basements and finished 1,000 basements during the past 18 years, but I am no longer in the basement finishing business. 

However, I help families achieve professional results at the lowest possible cost, while supporting Yellow Brick House. The entire design fee goes directly to YBH, as I pay for the advertising costs for this site, and for my travel expenses. I get asked all the time what is in it for me. Simple, this is my way of giving back.   

Yellow Brick House assited 3,700 battered women in York Region last year.  They provide temporary housing, legal assistance, career counselling, assistance with finding new housing, and so on. They save lives and offers hope at the time of greatest need.   

What's the catch? There is no catch.

Once I leave your home, you will have a plan that maximizes the potential of your basement based upon your budget. You will also have a strategy on how to proceed.  You can do the work yourself, or act as your own contractor, or hire a professional project manager, or prepare for soliciting bids from retail contractors based upon a level playing field.

What does it cost?

My fee for my design rate and travel time is $120 per hour with a minimum charge of $500.  Clients that use my design service typically save $10,000 to $15,000 when compared to hiring a basement finishing company or a general contractor.  No, I'm not kidding. 

I trained the owners of many of the leading basement finishing companies in the GTA over the years, so I know what they charge and how much profit they make. 

What do you get?

* a floor plan drawn to scale that includes furniture and fixture layouts, an electrical layout, and a reflective ceiling layout

* hours of detailed instruction so that you understand why and how things should be done

* a list of professional tradesmen with their contact numbers and the rates that they charge builders, as opposed to retail rates

* details on where to buy materials at builder cost

* a tax receipt for the full value of the cheque that you write directly to Yellow Brick House
